Before you reach out.

How long does therapy typically last?

It depends entirely on what brings you in and what you want from the work. Some clients come for a focused period of 6–12 months; others find ongoing therapy valuable over several years. We’ll talk about your goals and pace together, revisiting the question as the work progresses.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes. All services are available via secure video for Washington State residents. Many clients find telehealth just as effective as in-person work, and it removes the commute. In-person sessions are available at the Queen Anne office for those who prefer them.

What’s the difference between therapy and assessment?

Therapy is an ongoing relational process focused on insight, growth, and change. Psychological assessment is a more structured diagnostic process, typically 8–12 hours of testing spread over a few sessions, that results in a detailed written report. Some clients do both; others come for one or the other.

I’ve never been in therapy before. Where do I start?

The first few sessions are an extended getting-to-know-you. Dr. Claney will ask questions, you’ll ask questions, and she’ll get a sense of what you’re carrying and what you’d like to be different. There’s no agenda to push through. The work begins wherever you are.

What ages do you work with?

Dr. Claney sees clients 16 and older. Psychological assessments are available for clients 16+; psychotherapy is focused on adults.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Dr. Claney asks for 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or reschedules. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee, with exceptions for genuine emergencies. Life happens and she’s reasonable, but consistent attendance is important to the work.
