What does my score mean?
The GAD-7 measures how frequently anxiety symptoms have been present over the past two weeks. It is a snapshot, not a permanent characterization of who you are.
Anxiety is also a spectrum. The GAD-7 screens specifically for generalized anxiety but often picks up panic, social anxiety, and other presentations as well. Context matters alongside the score.
Minimal to mild symptoms. Self-care, stress management, and monitoring are reasonable starting points. Worth noting if symptoms have persisted for weeks or if they cluster around specific situations.
Moderate anxiety. Treatment is usually warranted at this level. Therapy, particularly approaches that address both the patterns and the underlying drivers of anxiety, is strongly recommended.
Severe anxiety. This level significantly impacts daily life and warrants prompt professional attention. Therapy, and possibly medication evaluation, can make a substantial difference. Please reach out to a clinician.
Anxiety doesn’t have to run your life. Therapy helps.
